In this brand new sports betting article we will look into 10 common mistakes that we have noticed and heard lot of sports bettors making when they are trying to pick the winners and to make money from betting sports online. Some of these mistakes might seem really silly, but we would assume that at least couple of them are such that almost everyone is doing occasionally.
The common mistakes in sports betting:
Not paying attention to the odds. If you are serious about making money from betting this is pretty much the absolute biggest mistake that you can make. In reality betting is all about comparing the odds to chances of winning. Let’s say you assume that team A is going to win the game 50% of the time. If you were to get odds of 2.3 for team A they would be a great bet. But if you were to get only odds of 1.9 betting on them would be a huge mistake.
Being too results oriented. Even if you lose 3 bets in a row it certainly doesn’t mean that you are the world’s worst better and should never bet again, and naturally on the other hand: even if you win 5 bets in a row it doesn’t mean that you are ready to turn pro.
Not using the proper bankroll management. You pretty much never want to place more than 5% of your betting bankroll on one game, and even that should be only for the special occasions.
Not doing your homework. Just because a team was good last year doesn’t mean they are good this year.
Not understand the importance of motivation. Team A could be on paper much better than team B but if the team A has nothing to play for and team B is for an example fighting against relegation, there could very well be a surprise coming in that game.
Not keeping track of your bets. How could you ever know in which leagues your analysis are correct and in which leagues they need improving you don’t do detailed tracking of your bets.
Trusting blindly other bettors. This obviously applies mostly on “gurus” who have no credential. However, even if you found a bettor / tipster who you can trust you should always use your own brain, maybe they have missed something very important in that specific game and are in fact recommending you to place extremely bad bet.
Assuming that just because you have become a great bettor in one sport or league you can easily become it in other. It is very hard to make the transition from tennis to for an example F1 racing, and eve between football leagues the differences in things that matter in betting can be surprisingly big.
Going on betting tilt after losing some money. Never try to win your moneys back by placing a massive bet that you wouldn’t have made otherwise.
Losing money on poker or casino games. There is lot of people who would be very well off financially thanks to sports betting if it wasn’t for their poker or casino games gambling habit. If you don’t know what you are doing simply stay away from the poker and casino games.
