David Sklansky is a popular poker player known all over the world not only for his poker skills but also for the books that he has written. Background History
David Sklansky was born in Teaneck, New Jersey on 1947. He grew up in the area, having graduated in Teaneck High School on 1966. His college years were spent in Pennsylvania at the University of Pennsylvania, but he never got to finish college there. Instead, he returned to Teaneck where he passed his exams on Society of Actuaries, after which he got a job in an actuarial firm. Aside from his job, he also became a professional gambler.
The Poker Player
He left college to become a professional gambler, and in 1982, his efforts bore fruit when he won two World Series of Poker bracelets, one in an $800 Mixed Double Event and another in the $1,000 Draw Hi. The succeeding year, in 1983, he won another WSOP bracelet when he played in the $1,000 Limit Omaha Hi.
By the year 2004, he got an invitation to play at the Poker by the Book Event where he also won first place. In this poker event, he defeated Phil Helmuth and Doykle Brunson, two other big names in the poker world.

All in all, Sklansky has written and has co-written 13 books, the topics of which are about gambling theories in general and poker in particular. In fact, his 1976 book, the title of which was “Hold’Em Poker” became a favorite among poker players as it was the first of its kind about the game that has became widely available. He has also written a book about making a living by gambling.
