Today, Kathy Liebert resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, though she wasn’t born there nor grew up the gambling center of the United States. Liebert was born in Nashville, TN, October 1, 1967 and raised on Long Island in New York. Today, she is one of the games most respected tournament players of either sex.
Kathy Liebert began playing poker while a child, competing against her family for small change. It was here that her interest and enjoyment of the game was born. However, there were no early dreams of becoming a professional gambler. Instead, she entered college in preparation for what she believed would be a future career in business.
Liebert attended Marist College and earned a degree in finance and business. As stated above, poker would not yet become her primary profession or even be on the radar as a career choice. She first worked for Dunn and Bradstreet. Not happy with her job, she began to explore other avenues to make money, one of which was the stock market. She did pretty well, so well in fact, that she was able to quit her job as a Business Analyst at Dunn and Bradstreet.
After moving to Colorado she began playing poker at some of her town’s gambling resorts. She played so well that the resort’s management asked her to become a prop player. She obliged and played in that capacity for a while. She then decided to venture out and compete in some tournaments. This turned to be a great choice and an eventual jump into professional poker. She got off to a great start, making over $30,000 the first couple of times she participated in tournaments. Not bad.
Today, Liebert is one of the best female players in the game. She had some of her best performances at World Poker Tour and WSOP events. It is believed that she has already amassed roughly $4 million. This is an incredible amount of money and has established her as one of the more successful players in the game.
One of Liebert’s greatest successes, as it relates to the game of poker, was her win of a WSOP bracelet. This is one of poker’s most distinguished and prestigious accomplishments. In 2004, Liebert won her bracelet after competing in the $1500 Limit Hold’em Shoot Out event
The year 2002 was another great year on the felt for Kathy. She won $1 million when she was the last person standing at Poker.com Million tournament. She had to face some of the game’s top players and ended up besting all of them. . In 2005, she took home the top prize at the Poker Royale: Battle of the Sexes, where she bested Antonio Esfandiari.
As one can see, Kathy Liebert is one of the most competitive, current poker players. Her play defies those who mistakenly believe that poker is only a male sport. Kathy’s play and success has proven that to be untrue.
