Phil Gordon is very popular in the poker world. He is not only known as a poker player that has excellent poker skills, but he also writes articles, works as a commentator, and is also a television analyst. Aside from this, he is the national spokesman of the Prevent Cancer Foundation, which he is also a member of.

Background History

Phil Gordon took up college in Georgia Tech where, in 1991, he graduated with a degree in Computer Science. He worked at Santa Cruz Operation as well as Lockheed, but decided to quit his job there to start working for Netsys Technologies. In fact, Gordon was the first hired employee of this start-up company. In 1996 though, the company was purchased by Cisco Systems, and the process of acquisition made a millionaire out of him. The year after the acquisition, 1997, Gordon finally decided to retire from the high-tech industry to focus more on his love for the game of poker as well as to travel around the globe.

It was in 2001 that Gordon first participated in a World of Series Poker Main Event where he landed the fourth place. On that tournament, he won almost half a million dollars. In 2002, he again made a record for himself as he finished sixth place on a $2,000 Pot Limit Omaha and landed the third place on a $2,500 Omaha Hi/Lo in the WSOP. In 2005, he also landed the third place at the $1,500 No Limit Texas Hold’Em Shootout Event of the WSOP, but he has yet to become successful at bagging a bracelet. All in all, it can be said that Gordon has made more or less $700,000 from his poker winnings. Phil Gordon The Poker Writer

As stated above, Gordon is a poker writer, and he has written a book entitled Little Green Book: Lessons and Teachings in No Limit Texas Hold’Em. Another book that he has written is the Little Blue Book: More Lessons and Hand Analysis in No Limit Texas Hold’Em. These books have become a favorite of many poker players as it discusses strategies and hand analysis of the game.

Especially the little green book was considered to be a bit of a milestone when it was published several years ago. The book discusses no limit texas holdem strategies which at the time were known only by a handful of people – people that didn’t want their secrets to get out. Obviously the game and the players who play no limit texas holdem have changed quite a bit since the book got out but it is still considered to be one of the key books that aspiring poker players should get and study in order to reach the top of the poker world.

Other literary works that have been published under his name includes articles in poker magazines. He also has a regular column that has its own loyal following. To aid poker players, he has also released a DVD called the Expert Insight: Final Table Poker, and this has won him an award as being a top instructional DVD.

Besides the DVD work Phil Gordon has also appeared in multiple TV-shows about poker: both as a player and a commentator. In the past there has been some controversy about Phil Gordon appearances in the TV-shows as commentator in the online poker community, because some people felt like Phil didn’t bring anything new or worthwhile to the shows. However it has been while since there has been such a comments about his appearances and thus it can be speculated that either the viewers have learned to like his commenting style or Phil Gordon has improved as a commentator.
