This strategy article is aimed for those poker players who have already been playing poker for a while and are confident in their ability to play winning poker. I’m sure that even most of the players who are not actually winning in money can get something out of the following tips, but the tips are more general and not really ABC and thus to some newer players they might be somewhat confusing and actually harm their game.
Tips for taking your poker winning to the next level:
1: Use the all in bet super value bet against bad players.
One of my absolute favorite poker moves for taking the bad players money is making a huge overbet with a super quality hand against them on river after you have raised before the flop, bet aggressive the flop and bet aggressively the turn. For an example let’s say that you are playing $1/$2 6 max no limit texas holdem and are dealt JT suited before the flop and raise from the cutoff to $7 are called only by the button who is a loose player. You both have $250 in your stack. The flop comes down 987 rainbow giving you the nut straight, because you know that you have loose opponent you decided to bet instead of trying anything too tricky. So you make a $15 bet to $17 pot and he calls it. The turn comes 4 and you now bet $40 into a $47 pot and are again called. On river A comes. You now have around $190 left in your stack and there is around $130 in the pot. This is perfect spot for jamming all in. The reasoning behind it is extremely simple: Your opponent is very likely to think that you are trying to use the A as a scare card and will talk himself into calling “your desperate all in bet” with lot of marginal hands such as K8.
2: Do headsup bumhunting!
Bumhunting means that you sit down into headsup tables and refuse to play against anyone else than the absolute biggest donkeys and fishes. It is hard not to make money when you actually get to play 1-on-1 poker against the worst players. For this reason it is also easy to understand why bumhunting is so popular and makes lot of people who don’t have the guts to play headsup poker so angry. If you are not too worried about being hated some guys for whom poker is more about ego than money, you should absolutely give bumhunting a shot.
3: Try to make the good poker players think you suck in poker.
Warning: This won’t work in the long run, as the good players will quickly catch on what you are doing. Thus these things work best when practiced when you are start playing at a new poker site. Many of the good poker players and pros play completely differently against the bad players than against the good players, and usually the differently means that they play much more straight forward poker against them. Thus if you can make your good opponents think that you suck in poker you will have much easier time at reading their hands and fooling them into making the wrong plays against your supposed hand range. (hand range = the hands they assume you might have in the situation in question). If you want to make them think you suck you can for an example try posting blind out of the position, buying in for weird amounts, taking too long in weird spots (as if you were thinking about some extremely easy decision), and so on.
