With six World Series of Poker bracelets under his name, T.J. Cloutier is, indeed, a very formidable opponent that any poker player could ever come across with during a poker tournament. It is being said that Cloutier now has over nine million dollars in poker winnings alone.
Background History
Cloutier was born in the year 1939 but now resides in Texas with Joy, his wife. Together, they have six children.
It can be said that Cloutier has one of the most colorful histories. He got into Berkeley on an athletic scholarship where he played football and baseball, and in 1959, Cloutier even played in the Rose Bowl. He joined the army later, and after a brief period of time in the army, he went back to playing football for the Canadian Football League. Sadly though, an injury terminated his career in the sports.
Having some knowledge in poker which he learned while he was still in the army, he turned to the card game and found out that he could make a decent living with his poker earnings.
The Poker Player
As stated above, Cloutier has six WSOP bracelets to his name. It was in 1987 that he received his very first WSOP bracelet where he landed the first place at a $1,000 Limit Omaha Hi event. He received the second one when he played at the 1994 WSOP $1,500 Limit Omaha or Better. The third bracelet was from the same year’s 1994 WSOP $2,500 Pot Limit Texas Hold’Em. In 1998, he participated in the $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi and bagged the first prize and another WSOP bracelet, his fourth bracelet. His fifth bracelet came from the 2004 WSOP $1,500 Seven Card Razz, while the fifth was from the $5,000 No Limit Hold’Em Event of the 2005 WSOP.
The Poker Writer
Cloutier has written a number of books on the subject of poker, and some of these he has co-written with Tom McEvoy, also a known poker player and writer.
His books mostly talk about poker strategies in No Limit and Pot Limit Hold’Em and strategies on how to win in poker tournaments as well as in poker cash games. In fact, his books have gathered great reviews from some of the poker world’s biggest names and are one of the books that many newbies in poker turn to if they want to become professional poker players. And why should they not when they are learning from a poker master.
