Ville Wahlbeck is a popular and very successful poker player who hails from Helsinki, Finland. Prior to becoming a professional poker player, he was an elementary schoolteacher and a freelance journalist. Wahlbeck began playing poker as an amateur because he enjoyed it. He would choose to turn this game into this profession because he found that he was able to earn more money playing poker than any of his other jobs, including teaching and freelance writing. Subsequently, he put all of his energies and time into poker. Today, it would be difficult to find someone who wouldn’t agree that it this move has paid off. It is estimated that Ville Wahlbeck has earned more than $1 million playing poker and has even played his way to a World Series of Poker bracelet.

The year 2009 has been a very good one for Ville Wahlbeck on the felt. He finished in sixth place at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), Event 49 in the HORSE world championship and won nearly $220,000 for his efforts. This tournament took place in June of 2009.
He also placed 12th in Event 44 WSOP Razz and won nearly $13,000. He finished in second place in Event 23, the WSOP No Limit Deuce to 7 Lowball World Championship and won $172,864.
Wahlbeck placed 1st, June 2009 in the WSOP Event 12 World Championship Mixed Event where he won nearly $500,000. Around this same time he won Event 6, WSOP Seven Card Stud World Championship. He finished in third place and won $152,914. As of one can see, 2009 has been an excellent year for Ville Wahlbeck at the poker tables. He has earned a ton of money, his poker playing efforts paying off.
Ville Wahlbeck has had a ton of success, cashing in numerous tournaments in 2009, putting his performances on par with the likes of Daniel Negreanu, David Baker and Brock Parker for the year. His cashes were mostly for 10k championship events. He was one of the final players standing at the 10k Seven Card Stud World Championship where he would end up in 3rd place. He was also at the final table at the 10k Mixed Events Championship. He would eventually go on to win a WSOP bracelet. He also had a good showing at the 10 k Omaha High Low 8b Event. He didn’t make the final table but he had performed well. He would rebound and make the final table at the 10k Championship Event.
All of Ville Wahlbeck’s successes have catapulted him up the WSOP POY Leader Board. He is currently number one with Brock Parker trailing him in second place. There is little doubt that Wahlbeck will have to keep performing at a high level, if he wants to finish out the year in first place. It doesn’t matter what individuals thought at the beginning of the year of Ville as a player, his play has forced fans and detractors alike, to forgo counting him out until the season is over.
